The Smiths Station High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band recently performed at the ABA State Music Performance Assessment in Opelika. The Concert Band, comprised primarily of eighth and ninth grade students from Wacoochee Junior High and Smiths Station High Schools, received an overall Superior Rating performing a grade IV program. Programs are rated on levels of difficulty, with I being the lowest, and IV being the highest. This is an incredible accomplishment for these young students who performed a medium/advanced high school program at such a young age.
The Symphonic Band, comprised of tenth through twelfth grade SSHS students, received straight Superior Ratings performing a grade VI program. In addition to receiving a Superior Rating from all four judges, they were also named a "band of distinction" for receiving a grade of A in every caption from all judges. They were one of only two groups to be honored with that distinction all day.
A congratulations goes out to all of the students who participated in the Concert and Symphonic Band programs as well as the music directors. We are very proud of their accomplishments.
